Blades For Hire Joins the Ancient Costume Game Festival on Steam – Playtest Sign-Ups Now Open
Independent developer DoubleTap, in collaboration with publisher Valkyrie Initiative, is proud to announce that their upcoming tactical strategy game Blades For Hire is taking part in the Ancient Costume Game Festival on Steam.
To mark the occasion, the team has opened sign-ups for the official playtest, allowing players to experience an updated build of the game ahead of its release.
PLAYTEST SIGN-UPS NOW OPEN!
In celebration of the festival, the developers have launched registrations for the Blades For Hire playtest.
Players can now click “Request Access” on the game’s Steam page to participate.
The playtest features:
An improved build based on feedback from the current public demo.
Bonus in-game content.
Two new Steam achievements, one of which unlocks a piece of unique equipment.
Participants will also have a chance to earn an exclusive reward - a unique chest armor and two-handed sword - available in the full release version of the game.
To qualify, players must:
Add Blades For Hire to their Steam wishlist.
Follow the Valkyrie Initiative publisher page.
Earn the Steam achievement “Old Guard.”
The “Old Guard” challenge requires completing the playtest without hiring any new recruits - relying solely on the mercenaries available at the start.
Because characters can die, flee, or quit if unpaid, surviving to the end will test even the most strategic commanders.
COMING Q1 2026
The playtest for Blades For Hire is scheduled to launch in Q1 2026, with notifications sent to all registered participants once access becomes available.
In the meantime, players can wishlist the game on Steam to stay informed and ensure they don’t miss the start of testing.
