New York Game Awards 2023

The New York Videogame Critics Circle (NYVGCC) today confirmed the 12th annual New York Game Awards is returning to a live and in-person show on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023, at the SVA Theatre in Manhattan. The New York Game Awards will be co-hosted by Harold Goldberg and 2020 Andrew Yoon Legend Award recipient and former President of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aimé. Goldberg and Fils-Aimé have been co-hosting the awards since 2020, but this will be Fils-Aimé's first time hosting the show in-person.

The NYVGCC, a nonprofit promoting awareness of, and education for, video games, writing and journalism in the New York City area, hosts the annual award program to celebrate the industry and its creators from the past year, as well as the students that NYVGCC mentors, and the NYVGCC scholarship programs.

“It feels good to know we’ll be back in person for this year’s awards, as we come together to celebrate the best games of the past year and acknowledge the hard work from developers, media and creators,” said Harold Goldberg, executive director and founder, NYVGCC. “At the heart of our show is also our mission to support our underserved and homeless youth populations by creating paid internship opportunities for students interested in Games Journalism and the games industry, and we know their love for video games will shine through at our 12th annual awards show to make it the best one yet.”

The NYVGCC was recently featured in the New York Emmy Award-nominated documentary series Shift NYC that detailed the organization's work with Bronxworks. NYVGCC also partners with Rockstar Games and the NYC Dept. of Education to offer a nationwide journalism contest that awards one talented, homeless student with a college scholarship. You can read more about these programs here.

“It is exhilarating to be co-hosting the 12th annual New York Game Awards as we return to a live, in-person show,” said Reggie Fils-Aimé, board member, NYVGCC. “Being a part of NYVGCC has been a personally enriching experience. The students we work with here will be the future leaders of our industry, and now more than ever the NYVGCC needs the support of the industry as we continue to offer internships, mentoring, and other programs. Not only do we want to see a packed SVA Theatre, we also can’t wait to break our fundraising goals from last year!”

Ticket proceeds from the New York Game Awards are donated to the NYVGCC scholarship fund and paid internship opportunities for kids at Bronxworks network of homeless residences, Mott Hall III, TapCo, and the DreamYard Prep School. Through these programs, kids learn essential skills in video game development, journalistic content, and fictional writing like video game narratives.

Ticket sales for the NYVGCC Awards will help to fund ongoing programs for 2023, and are on sale today. Tickets cost $40 for General Admission and $75 for Orchestra (closest to the stage). For more information on ticket sales and other NYVGCC programs, please visit the website:
