Total War has a Roguelike Competitor and it comes from a Solo Dev

Memori Studios, the passion project of solo developer TJ, proudly unveils the latest version of Tabletop Tavern, a real-time strategy (RTS) roguelike that blends epic battles with the addictive thrill of “one more run.”
Tabletop Tavern is on it’s way to becoming an indie hit with nearly 40,000 wishlists, an announcement trailer with over 100k views, and a thriving Discord community!
In Tabletop Tavern, players recruit and lead a vibrant cast of mercenaries straight off the pages of a Tolkien novel, from Viking berserkers to Elven archers. With infinite build synergies, tough choices, and boundless replayability, Tabletop Tavern is an RTS built for roguelike fanatics.
“I’ve always been obsessed with Total War’s army-building and tactical battles, but I craved a roguelike twist. A game where I could dive into a short session after work and feel the rush of a complete, satisfying run. Tabletop Tavern is that dream brought to life.” - TJ, Solo Developer
Real Time Strategy: Lead your troops in intense real-time battles where positioning, timing, and synergy determine victory. Form disciplined spear walls to counter cavalry, protect your archers from flanking maneuvers, and use the terrain to gain the upper hand. Swamps, forests, hills, and river crossings play a decisive role shaping the rhythm and flow of combat. From commanding small skirmishes to massive clashes with hundreds of units on screen, every encounter challenges your strategic instincts.
Roguelike Campaign: Discover powerful synergies through unique leader abilities, diverse units, and game changing gear. Every playthrough offers fresh challenges and opportunities, demanding careful decisions to forge victory and master the battlefield.
Diverse Factions and Units: Command four unique factions in the demo (with more planned), each boasting distinct playstyles. Lead the elite infantry of the Vikings, the monstrous trolls and giants of the Orcs, the agile and flashy Elves, or the stalwart Humans. Each faction comes with unique heroes whose abilities change how the players craft their army roster and approach the battlefield.
Massive Real-Time Battles: Powered by Unity’s ECS architecture, Tabletop Tavern delivers seamless performance with hundreds of units on-screen!

New Features in the Latest Demo Update
The Biomes & Factions Update is now live! The latest update to Tabletop Tavern transforms the battlefield and deepens strategic choices with new environmental effects, faction-wide powers, and hero-exclusive units.
Three new biomes now alter combat dynamics:
Swamp: Movement speed reduced by 75 and charging is disabled creating grueling slugfests.
Forest: Units gain +25% missile resistance and lose charge bonuses,- ideal for ambush tactics.
River Crossing: A natural chokepoint where armies collide in brutal, narrow clashes.
Each faction now has a distinct passive effect applying to both of its heroes:
Iron Legion – Imperial Edict: The first recruitment pack is free when entering any town, ideal for strong early armies.
Raven Host – Elite Ravagers: Sacking towns prestiges two random units, rewarding bold, high-risk play.
Heroes now come with exclusive Signature Units that can only be obtained in their campaigns, each with unique traits and a 10% chance to appear in card packs.
Edric Valeward’s Kriegesguard feature the Unstoppable trait, healing 25% each turn.
Rhydan Greythorne’s Deepwood Rangers excel in forests and deploy outside normal zones.
Freyja Stormweaver’s Angels of Death feature Valkyries riding winged pegasi whose Emblazing trait sunders enemy armor.
Bjorn Ironskull’s Jomsvikings terrify enemies as they charge in ready to decimate enemy infantry
- Plus, the Eisenmann gunpowder unit joins the Iron Legion, bringing some much needed armor piercing to the Iron Legion!
